Memorial Day is hands down one of the best holidays of the year.  It kick-starts summer, which means pools open, you can fire up your grill and it’s okay to wear white pants (the last one is hearsay, as I don’t actually own any white pants).  There are three acceptable destinations on Memorial Day weekend:  beach, pool, or grilling out.

1. Beach: Can’t get enough of Jersey Shore? You’re not the only one.  Get a group of friends together, rent a beach house for the summer and make your way to the boardwalk.  Beach jobs are extremely seasonal and always hiring for the summer.  I see a great tan, Jager bombs and a regrettable tattoo in your future.
2. Pool: There are three awesome jobs to be had here.  The obvious choice is lifeguard, but let’s not forget the awesomeness that is snack bar attendant (all the microwave pizza and Ring Pops you can eat).  Or you could work as a swim coach. This takes a little more experience, but chances are, if you’re qualified to be a lifeguard, you’re probably a good enough swimmer to be a coach.
3. Grill out: Okay, so you can’t actually make money with your own grill, but you can make money at someone else’s.  If there is nothing more relaxing than the smell of charcoal and lighter fluid, you need to head straight to your nearest restaurant and take up a position as grillmeister (or cook, whichever they happen to be hiring for).

Your favorite summer destination not on the list? No problem. To be honest, it doesn’t matter where you’re going for Memorial Day, because there are great summer jobs to be had doing almost anything, anywhere. Find your next job today!

In four years of college, I worked eight student jobs. I was a waitress in a café and a seafood restaurant; a sandwich maker/barista; a tour guide; a lifeguard; a warehouse picker and packer; a telemarketer and a lab assistant. Whew. I didn’t enjoy every one of these jobs – I only lasted two hours as a telemarketer – but I learned lessons about responsibility and work relationships that helped me in every other job I’ve had.
